In March 2008, I came to Israel on the Israel Government Fellows program, a MASA-supported program. As part of the program, I studied Hebrew at Ulpan Or for 4 months. After a mere few months, I can clearly see the progress I made in Hebrew. I came to Israel and had difficulty in understanding, speaking and writing Hebrew. I can now understand with ease and converse with confidence.
Ulpan Or’s system of learning really works. The ulpan and teachers tailor the lessons to the student’s need and wants. The materials allowed me the flexibility I needed to study Hebrew while managing my various other responsibilities. Furthermore, the teachers are excellent – prepared, professional, and fun – which made my weekly lessons enjoyable.
I am currently a Level Dalet (4) and am now prepared to begin a Master’s Degree at Hebrew University. Thank you Ulpan-Or for improving my Hebrew. I can’t thank you enough.

Cafe’-Ulpan

Ulpan-Or’s new initiative - Cafe Ulpan is meant to allow the students who are participating in our intensive programs to actively practice their Hebrew in an informal ordinary Israeli relaxed atmosphere and be immersed into Hebrew.

The idea is to create an immersion environment by providing additional time for practicing Hebrew with different people in the afternoon hours.

Be immersed into Hebrew:

Get additional Hebrew practicing in the afternoon. These sessions will be with Ulpan-Or teachers and possibly with other students at your level in a warm and an informal atmosphere, such as a coffee shop or similar.

You will order the coffee in Hebrew for yourself and the teacher and have a structured conversation over the coffee, covering the topics you have studied during the day.

This additional “Hebrew time” will help you gain a lot of confidence and start feeling at ease with Hebrew.

Hebrew Lessons through Guided Distance Learning (GDL)

Through GDL, you can advance your Hebrew significantly over 10 lessons with a personal Hebrew coach. The course is based on material developed using our unique learning system ( i.e. study kits). Using free internet communication tools, GDL provides the attention and intimate feeling of a face to face teacher.

E-Tone® is an Electronic News Digest that includes the latest news items that have been broadcasted in Israel. I was standing with Moti by Mary’s Spring in Ein Karem.

It was my fourth and final tiyul during my two week intensive Mini-Israel program with Ulpan Or. Mary’s Spring was our first stop on the tiyul. We were splashing water on our faces from this wonderful, small & quiet spring. Two women came along and I asked them to take a photo of us. After feeling refreshed from the spring water and recording the experience on photograph, I was ready to tell Moti the story about Mary’s Spring. The women were about to continue on, when I suddenly decided to invite them to listen to my story about the spring. Of course, I extended the invitation to them Hebrew. They accepted and listened. One of the women who lives just above Ein Kerem, in Beit HaKerem, was nodding along as I told about Mary’s Spring. It was encouraging. I felt like a real tour guide!! Moti was also very excited about me telling the story to an audience. What a thrill!!

I really feel the confidence,
for the first time, to speak Hebrew in public since I began studying Hebrew six years ago. Over the years, I have participated in several ulpanim, but I never felt confident speaking in public. Now, I feel much more confident. This is thanks to Ulpan Or! Ulpan Or feels more like a home than an office. The atmosphere is bright, cheerful and friendly. I say this both about the salon where we sit and do our individual studying and about the wonderful people who work here. Hebrew is spoken both between teacher and student and among staff -but also among the students themselves, even those at a beginner level, as they greet each other in the ulpan salon.

My first breakthrough was on day four. The first few days felt very intense to me (actually the whole two weeks, but especially the first three days). On Wednesday of week one, I had an assignment to write a page in Hebrew about whatever I wanted, using some of the new words I had learned. I was supposed to write it first in Hebrew and then translate my story into English and from that English translation I would then, with my teacher (Osnat!), translate it out loud back into Hebrew. I didn’t manage to finish writing the English translation, so Osnat asked me to read her my Hebrew version instead. Throughout my reading of it, Osnat smiled and offered quiet compliments. After I finished, Osnat continued to compliment it and seemed very impressed with the structure of my sentences and the use of my new words. I was already feeling good about what I had written. Earlier that morning, when I wrote it in Hebrew, I really felt my progress as weaved together some of my new words into sentences. And now, I was feeling even better from the glowing reaction from Osnat! And then later from Orly!

I loved everything about this course!!! I recommend Ulpan Or to everyone who is about to do it. It is worth every shekel! The programs are really made specifically for you and one can chose the pace within each program. For instance, I have decided to continue in a less intensive program, starting next week. Now that I have a comfortable level of confidence to speak Hebrew in public, I don’t want to lose that confidence. So we have put together a program that will meet my specific needs. This is possible for everybody. Don’t think a moment longer–sign up today!!!

Ulpan-Or is a fantastic place to learn Hebrew. The first time you open the door you can feel the friendly and supportive environment. As you progress through the course you begin to feel like you are a part of a giant family. Everyone, not just your assigned teacher, genuinely cares about your progress making the learning process smoother, much more enjoyable, and non-sterile. I will miss Ulpan-Or and will take many fond memories with me when I leave.

tutto si puo’ fare ma a volte e’ molto importante il “come” si fanno le cose. studiare l’ebraico all’ Ulpan Or e’ stato un modo per imparere una lingua ma anche per imparare come imparare.

ho trovato un ambiente familiare e confortevole e il metodo e’ stato efficace e gratificante perche’ da subito si comincia a parlare la nuova lingua…adesso tocca a me conservare quello che ho imparato. se sara’ un po’ difficile conservare tutti i vocaboli appresi in questo periodo sara’ impossibile dimenticare le persone che ho incontrato qui. sono stato in famiglia e sento davvero di voler ringraziare tutti, tutti sono stati miei insegnanti ma soprattutto miei amici! You can “do everything” but sometimes it is very important ‘how’ you do things.

Studying Hebrew at ‘Ulpan Or and’ was a way not only to master a language but also to learn how to learn.

I found it comfortable and the method has ‘been effective and rewarding because’ now you start to speak the new language… now it’s up to me to keep what I learned.

And even if it is’ a little ‘difficult to keep all the leant words, nevertheless it will be’ impossible to forget the people I met here.

I was in the family and feel really want to thank everyone, all were my teachers, but especially my friends! THANKS!

We, at Ulpan-Or had the pleasure of having with us: Yahel, Dana and Chen from Ramah California together with Enna, Nitza and Hilla from Ramah New England, who have participated in an intensive Hebrew training workshop.

During the workshop the participants received a “Hebrew tool-kit” which will enable them to introduce the Hebrew Experience in their respective Ramah camps helping the kids strengthen their Jewish identity, their bond with Israel, its people and culture.

The teachers and the staff are very helpful and cheerful. I had two teachers. They were both excellent. It is pleasant that they are polite, understanding and intelligent.

The turning point for me was to see how Israeli terminology differs one time from English e.g. להיפרד - in English is to separate. להיפרד in Hebrew can mean separate, but also to break up with a girlfriend - to divorce.

I feel my brain has a new twist in it - to get into the style of speaking Hebrew.
