Ulpan Or has helped me to progress and has made me feel very comfortable. Everyone here has been to me like a family and I feel very much at home with everyone.

Each teacher has their own personality and way of instructing. Their care and concern to provide me with what I need, and their patience with me has been very heartwarming and appreciated.

I would definitely attend another Ulpan Or course the next time I return to Israel.

My time at Ulpan-Or has been wonderful. I learned so much Hebrew and my confidence in speaking Hebrew increased immensely. I really appreciated how enthusiastic Yael was. She was always positive and very encouraging. Over the last two weeks I had a lot of fun and genuinely looked forward to coming to Ulpan-Or everyday. I am really going to miss it!

I really never imagined when I came to Ulpan Or that I would learn so much in such a short time. I have increased in my ability to read, write and speak Hebrew with ease. Mostly, I have a new-found comfort and feeling of being at home in the language. What a gift! Thank you so much!

My greatest disappointment is not being able to continue for yet another session. When I came to Ulpan Or I had really only one goal – to speak Hebrew. I had been in other programs over the years, both in the U.S. and in Israel, most recently in a well respected and, in many ways, excellent ulpan. However, after having studied in this ulpan for almost four months – although my reading and writing skills were progressing slowly – I understood very little of what was said in the classroom and virtually never opened my mouth. When I tried to speak it was as if every word I knew to read or write flew from my mind. I was ready to give up. To sign up for Ulpan Or was an act of desperation. My expectations for myself were limited despite the ulpan’s encouraging materials. I can only report that my progress not only exceeded my very modest expectations, but my wildest hopes. It was not easy or “painless”. It required commitment and hours of outside work, but it was work that was a pleasure to do – both because the nature of the program makes the material accessible, the content of the material is interesting, and, most importantly, it was easy and clear to see my own progress. However, I believe there are three main “secrets” of the program’s success. The first was Aviv, the very fine, professional, and nurturing teacher provided to me with whom I met – one on one – for three hours every morning, five days a week for two weeks. The second, was the systematic and organized material which presented to me, for the first time, a clear and organized structure in which to fit all I was learning and all I had already “learned”, but which had simply proved overwhelming and, for the most part inaccessible. The third is the way in which much of the outside work is “self-correcting” which allows the immediate feedback so central to the learning process. I must also report that the entire staff of the ulpan contributed to the pleasure it was to study there. They were, without exception, always friendly, cheerful, helpful, and most importantly encouraging and supportive. Now at the end of my current session at Ulpan Or (I hope perhaps to return at some point in one or two of the less intensive programs) I must say the my progress has been phenomenal. The deficiencies of my ability current level of ability will certainly not remain. I now have critical tools that will allow me to continue to progress alone and in other venues. But the most important gift from Ulpan is perhaps, not my increased proficiency with the Hebrew language, but the fact that I now have the confidence that I can learn Hebrew and, in line with my initial goal – I am willing to actually speak Hebrew!
___________As I have already shared – I offer only one suggestion and that is that there be a way one can record their spoken responses such that the student can immediate compare their own speech with the proper presentation of the correct pronunciation._______________

I love coming here. I learned a lot , I will understand almost everything when I go back into school.I will miss Ulpan-Or, but I will be so happy to understand everything.

We moved to Efrat, Isreal in August with our two children. Both Elian age 10 and Eliza age 7 had been enrolled in a bilingual school in Boca Raton, Florida , yet they were completely unprepared to study all their academic subjects in Hebrew only. After several months Eliza felt completely overwhelmed. Eliana was not unhappy , but it was clear to us she had learned very little in the free Ulpan that the city of Efrat provided.

After searching the Ulpanim in the area, we chose Ulpan-Or. I cannot tell you how pleased we have been with the education and experience that Ulpan or has provided.

After every lesson with Yael, my daughter Eliana would say , that this is how all learning should be.

After two and a half weeks at Ulpan-Or Eliana is back in the classroom understanding 90% of everything that she is taught in Hebrew.

This is Eliza’s last day at Ulpan-Or, but I expect similar results

I am really sorry we did not find Ulpan-Or sooner.

I would not have thought it possible to learn so much Hebrew in such a short time. I will be 55 years old next week, and had not studied Hebrew for over thirty years. Aviv succeeded in knocking the rust off all the Hebrew left in my skull, and adding much, much more besides. The entire staff was wonderful! My son was also enrolled during the same time as I. When he became sick, the staff went beyond the call of duty to accommodate his need to make up the sessions.

I really feel 100 times more comfortable, in Hebrew now, and Ulpan-Or has also given me the tools to continue to learn and improve my Hebrew. Thank you a million times!

Taking this course was one of the best decisions I ever made. Prior to the course my knowledge of Hebrew was only what I had needed to barely scrape by at my Bar Mitzvah, but after two weeks at Ulpan-Or I learned more Hebrew then in all the years of Sunday school combined. I can now hold entire conversations in Hebrew, get myself around town, go shopping, and speak to my niece and nephews, all in Hebrew! I am definitely going to recommend Ulpan-Or to any of my friends in America who are serious about learning Hebrew. The best part is that I get to keep all the materials so that when I go home I can continue to study and advance in Hebrew. Hopefully the next time I come back to Israel I will be able to take more courses and advance even further. Thank you Ulpan-Or for everything.

within 2 weeks I am talking

This was the perfect way for me to begin to learn Hebrew. I came with only Shalom and Todah, and within 2 weeks I am talking and (almost) reading and am excited about learning more, continuing to speak with people, and, with language in my mind and heart, further integrating into life here in Jerusalem.

The pedagogy is excellent, with the one-on-one attention and the great sympathy and sensitivity of my teacher who gently pushed and stretched me but who also made sure that I was comfortable and learning with joy, and curiosity, rather than stress! When I was having trouble understanding something, she would stop to focus in on it. We would practice together until I understood enough for us to move forward. She was very clear, very patient, warm and encouraging. Miri is an excellent and very talented teacher! Everyday, I looked forward to seeing her, learning with her and talking with her.

I found the classes exciting because I could tell I was learning; I found myself integrating what I had already learned into the next lessons and being inventive and experimental with the language – I was not afraid to try things because I felt very supported and safe. In particular, I was learning words, sentence structures, and ways of communicating that were meaningful to me and that I could use and experiment with right away in my daily life.

Coming to Ulpan-Or everyday was a joy! There is a wonderful, warm and hospitable atmosphere here which is inviting, very professional and offers a real incentive to talk with the people here, to stick around and study. One of the reasons I chose Ulpan-Or was because I felt so comfortable and happy in the space, and with the welcome I received from Sharon and Michal. The warmth and encouragement, the cookies and tea, and the eagerness to help out, and the general enthusiasm for people and learning makes for an excellent learning environment!
